Dental Bonding

As an alternative to veneers, bonding can be used to restore teeth that are cracked, discolored, chipped, or misarranged.

How does bonding work?

A bonding liquid is applied by a procedure which lightly etches the surface of the tooth. The liquid will set in, and then a plastic resin which is custom shaped and sculpted by the dentist will be applied to the tooth. The resin is then carefully trimmed, smoothed out and polished. After this process, the resin will appear to look totally natural.

Considerations for bonding

The bonding procedure is often fast and simple. It can be completed in as little as one visit to the office and will significantly improve the visual appearance of the tooth. Please keep in mind, your natural tooth enamel is stronger than the applied plastic resin, therefore over time the resin might need to be repaired as it is more susceptible to staining, chipping, or breaking. Typically, bonding will last three to five years before a follow up treatment is required.
