Perioscopic Treatment
The Perioscope
Treating periodontal disease has evolved a great deal with the use of the perioscope. It has been created to allow us to investigate and assess the pockets underneath the gums that are caused by periodontitis. The perioscope is an endoscope that allows us to view an image on a computer that gives us an in depth look at the root surfaces of the affected teeth. This allows our dentists to assess the contents of the pocket. It helps to guide us in the cleaning process and aid us in the treatment of the condition in the most effective way. It can also help identify if there are other issues present. Other issues could include, perforations, cracks and any other disease causing problems on the tooth’s root surface. These could be under the surface of the gum, which formerly had to be investigated through surgery.
