Dental Digital Imaging

dental imaging

The doctors in our office always make sure to carefully select times when radiographs are taken. There are actually many guidelines that we follow. These radiographs help the doctors see everything the human eye cannot. They enable us to detect cavities in places in between your teeth and can actually determine bone level and the health of that bone. Other things can be observed too such as the roots and nerves of your teeth. They can also diagnose lesions such as cysts or tumors in extreme cases, as well as helping with assessing initial damage when trauma occurs.
Dental digital imaging radiographs are extremely important aids when diagnosing and treating dental health. The exposure time when using dental radiographs is very minimal. With more traditional and less current radiographs, exposure time can be doubled. So not only does dental digital imaging take about half the time, it will also retrieve valuable diagnostic information and help detect cavities better. Another added advantage of digital imaging, is that it allows us to store patient images as well as giving us the ability to quickly transfer these images to appropriate specialist or insurance companies if necessary.
Digital x-rays are viewed on a computer monitor instead of holding a 35mm film up to the light. They offer more precision as a result of this, while exposing you to 1/6 less radiation.
