There are a variety of orthodontic appliances that are used for treating different orthodontic problems. Removable appliances help keep your teeth in the right position and some will even promote jaw growth that result in a change of the facial structure. Removable and fixed orthodontic appliances may be used together or alone.
Not all orthodontic treatments will require the use of appliances. There are different conditions that are not ideal to use removable appliances for but our team will help you determine this. Timing is also an important factor regarding the use of removable orthodontic appliances.
If you are required to wear removable appliances with your individual treatment it’s important to wear them as instructed. Not doing so will put you at risk for the teeth, muscles and jaws moving back to their previous positions, resulting in a longer duration of treatment.
You also need to make sure you care for your appliances correctly. Cleaning your appliances is important and our staff will gladly sanitize appliances upon request if you prefer. All appliances may make speech somewhat altered but after time you adjust to it and it becomes natural.
Give Martindale Dental a call if you have a question or concern about your appliance, or to schedule a visit to see if you need any orthodontic treatment. We look forward to hearing from you!
